A fun character analysis on Kishimoto's kunoichi character "Tsunade". Where the manga is going, things are starting to get interesting. And, the anime fillers really make her look bad! T.T
There will be spoilers from the anime and manga!

People
Jiraiya: Competent ninja/bonehead. Shows kindness towards him (considering that they were teammates) and as easily can openly express agitation when he acts foolish, or when he teases her. I think they secretly like each other, but Tsunade would "never date him".
Haruno Sakura: Tsunade sees Sakura as a girl with great potential. Near the end of "Naruto 1" (manga) Sakura requested to be her pupil and train in the ardous medical arts. Tsunade accepted her; it might also be because she's Naruto's teammate.
Shizune: Tsunade's student and the late Dan's niece. It's hard to say when they first met but Tsunade cares for Shizune, and keeps her by her side. Perhaps it's also out of sympathy as well. IMO, she treats Shizune as if she were her own child.
Uzumaki Naruto: Because of his determination and dream, Naruto reminds Tsunade of Dan and Nawaki. He's seen as a little brother (especially in the anime, he gets grabbed and hit by her. Also shouted at.) She really has faith and trust in him.
Orochimaru: Konoha's archenemy, so Tsunade would naturally see him as a great hated threat. During the "Search for Tsudy" arc, there was some good interact between the two. Tsunade threatened to kill Oro if he didn't leave her be. Orochimaru bribed her with an enticing deal, angst insues for a while, then Tsunade made the choice to turn down the deal. In her fight with Kabuto, she was impulsive, going so far as to pushing Jiraiya away. You feel a lot of vindictiveness. In the anime, at the end of the sannin fight, Tsunade's punch to Orochimaru was extended to a pummel of rage. Eep x-x; They haven't met again since, not even in the anime.
Zodiac/Bloodtype
Leo (Fire/Lion/Dominant Sign) and B-type...both fit very well with this character.
Tsunade is a caring person, yet can be intolerant and bossy (fine examples with Naruto and Shizune). Tsunade can be very unplesant to be around with, and this side of her seems familiar to most people.
An individualist; her self-confidence was perfectly portrayed in the battle against Kabuto and Orochimaru - and with Naruto, when she first met him. She was pretty snotty. Also, while she was protecting Naruto, and when she affirmed the title of Fifth Hokage (Godaime Hokage), her strong will was revealed.
What is B-type? Laid back but ardent; they lack cooperation most of the time. The B-types tend to pay more attention to their own feelings, are more free-willed and independent. However, when their focus is on something, they become sharp and see anything to the end. Isn't that right...Uzumaki Naruto?
Love, sex and macho stuff...
"unlimited sexual lust" is mentioned for Leo.
She loved someone in painful past; today, she wanders around looking young. Also her clothes is revealing. She doesn't wear anything underneath her happi jacket, and it makes her a bit masculine. Her [K-senpai's] voice is deep-toned too, which gives out the impression of a powerful person, along with her dialogue. When she gives out missions, especially during the fillers (*cough*) this is evident.
Hey, I thought this part was cute. Look below:
Quoting from: astrology-online
"They have a strong sex drive and are so attracted to the opposite sex that they find it hard to be constant; they can be so intensely sexual as to become dissolute. They may have numerous love affairs for their love of pleasure and beauty is liable to drive them from one attractive partner to another. They are very much inclined to deceive. Their marriages may fail for the same reason, yet they are sincere and generous to their lovers while love lasts, and will remain attached to their homes so long as it is run for their benefit. They demand service but are incapable of giving it."
Gambling, sake, clothing...
Who knows? Fifty years is a long life.
I'll talk about her strengths, weaknesses and fighting styles later. In Kishimoto's character databook, Tsunade's stats is listed as "?" like Akatsuki, Jiraiya, Orochimaru and others. Either Kishimoto hasn't decided yet or perhaps they are stronger than Sarutobi (number-wise).
If I were to make stats for Tsunade, this is how I'd see her:
Note: Everything 3 or higher is pretty darn good.
TSUNADE
Ninjutsu: 5
Taijutsu: 4.5
Genjutsu: 4.5
Intelligence: 5
Strength: 5
Speed: 3.5
Stamina (chakra): 4.5
Seal: 5
TOTAL: 37 (Higher than sarutobi)
The duty of a Medic:
"A medical nin plays the team’s role. More so than attacking, it’s obvious that combat support and medical duties comes first."
"WRONG! A medical nin must never be hit by the enemy’s attack. What comes first is the ability to dodge your opponent’s attacks. Suppose you die. Whose gonna keep the team alive then?"
"~ Tsunade and Sakura, sensei and pupil (Manga chapter ??)
On the combat field, the primary duty of a medic is to protect and provide first aid care to the wounded. Because of their medical function, they are classified as "non-combat". They are armed to defend themselves or their patient ONLY. Side weapons such as kunai or tanto that are availiable for immediate use.
If Medics used their weapons offensively, then they sacrifice their role and the safety of the patient. They are perceived as a threat during the front lines or battle. The opposition would have to approach first.
However, even as a medic, Tsunade has proven to have devastating combat skills (and Sakura in season 2 manga, proven well in her fight against Sasori). Perhaps it's something she taught herself during her genin days. Perhaps in war, her goal was to heal those in need first and kill who opposed her and her patients. Maybe in "less hectic" missions, she'd battle like a real ninja would.
Double duty?
Would a medic with a fantastic combat skills be rare?
Also, training to be a medic is very difficult. [still not finished]
*:SIGNATURE TECHS:*

Anime vs Manga
The Tsunade of Kishimoto’s own original manga and the Tsunade of the reenacting anime series have little, but considerable differences IMO. Although she still retains her smart-mouthed attitude and subtle/open kindness, Tsunade in the anime seems to be a tad more unpleasant. Her irresponsibility and hot-headedness is more emphasized in the anime, especially the filler episodes following the “Rescue arc”.
Abusive/Anger/Cunning: There are so many examples. After the “Rescue Arc”, fillers began starting with the "Fuuma clan" arc up to present day. Tsunade is often seen assigning missions, briefing, and brooding over her selected team’s safety or the mission itself. Of course Naruto gives her a hard time, desiring not to go on such "useless missions", and complaining about that he should look for Sasuke. I’m surprised at how much patience she has. She grabbed him by the collar once and threatened to send him back to the academy. Most of the time she just ignores his pleads with a scowl and attempts to reason with him.
She threw her chair out the window once (and poor Izumo....and the chair). Naruto + Neji + Gai spit = stress day.
In the beginning of the Kagemusha arc, Naruto calls Tsunade a "Granny Ogre" and gets punched in the eye. Not saying that’s unusual (matter of fact, it’s about time?), but she never hit him in the bar when she called her "a stupid old granny" after the sannin fight.
Here’s when things get a little annoying.
One [infamous?] filler episode includes two dudes dressed up as a grotesque Maito Gai and Rock Lee. Their deception is no good, and Tsunade (pretending that they are Gai and Lee) just decides to put them through twenty minutes of torture. The impersonators had to climb cliffs, seek plants within leech-infested water, and care of Katsuyu (the boss of the slugs, who’s sneezing acid all over the place). Pretty mean I’d say, and comic relief, or perhaps that is a good example of her "individualism"?
In a somewhat recent filler episode, Tsunade also sent Naruto and Team 8’s Hinata’s and Kiba on a "treasure hunt". Because of the genin’s past mission failures, the Hokage threatened to send them back to the academy if they failed. In truth this was a test of the three genin’s teamwork skill, because in the beginning she had faith that they would succeed.
Irresponsibility: This is apart of Tsunade’s character, even in the manga. The council members Koharu and Homura seem to have a leash on her and follow her actions. Tsunade’s actions were questionable even though she was the village’s leader.
4/29/06: Let me add before I forget. This scene in the Hoshigakure filler irked me: Naruto bribing Tsunade with food, in order for her to send him on a mission he wasn't originally assigned to. Ignoring the Naruto plot device, I have to say that I thought the move was out-of-character. Tsunade is a bossy character and Hokage, but then again, plot device.
Last time she was bribed it was by Orochimaru.
Well, Tsunade choked on her food ;o She's okay though XD
